Confined: A story of death and shadows was an atmospheric narrative horror game that won the official 2014 Scare Us Silly Game Creation Challenge (GCC). It was notable for being one of the earliest examples of a Roblox game making use of newly added features for aesthetic purposes, such as dynamic lighting and user generated audio.
While the story is difficult to understand from in-game context clues, the description of the original upload of the game sheds some light: "You live in a house of dark phenomena. Legend has it that when the house was built in the 1800s, a deadly disease hit the original occupants, and they all happened to die roughly 10 minutes away from each other. You, (...) a man haunted by death himself, start to both question where you are, and what stories of your family’s past you’ve forgotten. Eventually, you begin to run from the unknown. When in reality, the dark is the only light you have."
The original version of Confined has been permanently shut down but before then it was copied and reuploaded by a few different users. This version uploaded by user SpyHawk722 was the most accurate playable reupload at the time of recording, as it still contained the voice acting recorded specially for this game. However, it had some glitches (the grass swaying effect and particles were broken, and the reaper that attacks the player is missing most of its body) and most of the ambient audio tracks have since disappeared (namely the grandfather clock, the baby's lullaby, the storm outside, the song played by the gramophone, and the buzzing of the flies).
This video features full gameplay of this version of Confined. While it is not perfectly accurate to the game as it existed on release, all locations and events in the game are shown clearly in high definition, providing a fairly full perspective of the game.
