Stockinette Bandana Tutorial - Knitting Pattern

This is a beginner friendly, solid knit bandana tutorial using the stockinette stitch. I designed this pattern to be knit sideways because the stockinette stitch allows for the ties to be stretchier.

In the video I got my M1L and M1R mixed up. I show a M1R but call it a M1L. Really you can do either for the increases. I updated it in the written pattern but can't edit the video at this point. My apologies!!
It’s very easy to adapt the sizes for this bandana to customize it to be exactly how you want it, or the amount of yarn you are using.
There is no gauge listed because it is intended to be knit with different yarn weights/needle sizes.
Materials:
Yarn - any weight! You will need 100grams.
I used Blue Sky Fibers Organic Cotton Sport in the color Caribbean
The yellow bandana is Blue Sky Fibers Techno in the color Mellow
Needles - Use the needle size appropriate with the yarn weight you choose. If there is a range of suggested needles, go with the larger needle so it lays with more drape
Glossary:
k - knit
p - purl
m1r - make one right
k2tog - knit two together
ssk - slip slip knit
Directions:
Cast on 3 stitches using long tail cast on
row 1 (RS) - knit
row 2 (WS) - purl
row 3 - k1 m1r k2
row 4 - purl
row 5 - k1 m1r k3
row 6 - purl
row 7 - k3 m1r k2
row 8 - purl
row 9 - k2 p1 m1r p1 k2
row 10 - k1 p1 k1 p1 k1 p1 k1
2 row increase repeat
RS - k2 p1 m1r, k to last 3, p1 k2
WS - k1 p1 k1, p to last 3, k1 p1 k1
Repeat both rows until your desired length/depth, or when you have ran out of just under first half of your yarn.
2 row decrease repeat
RS - k2 p1 k2tog, knit to last 3, p1 k2
WS - k1 p1 k1, p to last 3, k1 p1 k1
Repeat both rows until there are 7 stitches left
Final decrease rows
row 1 - k2 p1 ssk k2
row 2 - purl
row 3 - k2 k2tog k2
row 4 - purl
row 5 - k2 k2tog k1
row 6 - purl
row 7 - k1 k2tog k1
row 8 - purl
bind off remaining stitches. Weave in ends. Block.
