All of the following are parts of a valve body except.
Shift valves, manual valve, TCC solenoid, which is torque converter control, vehicle speed sensor.
Oh, that could be a bit tricky. We're gonna figure it out.
Yep. We're talking about valve bodies. What is a valve body Where is it located, and what does it do as part of the automatic transmission?
Well, you can see it's right down there in the bottom. And what the valve body does, it actually takes the fluid It's the traffic cop of fluid. It's gonna direct it with a bunch of shifts solenoids, all kinds of different passages to different clutch packs, planetary gear sets, torque converter, oil pump, just depends on where it has to go to either hold or drive to members of that transmission to achieve gears. The charger behind us, well, that has eight different gears.
It's an automatic, so there's a lot going on inside of that transmission. And the valve body is in charge of directing that fluid to all of it. What's inside of there? Well, you got all different things inside of there.
You have shift valves, You have torque converter check valves, lock up solenoids, you've got servo control valves, manual valves. Matter of fact, I have one right here on the table. You can actually see. Right here is a little valve.
I'll pop it out of here. This is like a manual valve for shifting, but it goes in there and you can see the spools and the lands right here. So if I a bunch of fluid on one side and not on the other, depending on what's shifting and what's actually going through these worm passages right here. It's gonna push this valve in one direction or the other.
This one's actually manually actuated. When you shift, it pushes it down and it redirects fluid to all these different passages, all these different worm passages.
On this side, you can see where all the valves are located all the way throughout. This one's electronic, so we have different solenoids on here. To push the valves and moves for different shifts. Now, what's going on inside of there? Man, you don't even wanna know. There it is. So there's different fluid flow for each holding member of that transmission.
Fortunately, unless you're a well versed transmission guy, you don't have to study this we'll be alright on that eight two automatic transmission test. Now, you can see here when you're installing a valve body, here's a couple tips for you. You see the bolt lengths are all different. Make sure they're in the right place and make sure you follow the tightening specifications and torque specifications.
You can see tighten the seventeen bolts here to eight foot pounds. That's not a lot, but it has to be equal and it has to be in a specific pattern. Why You don't wanna warp that. You don't want any of those valves sticking.
Well, here's our question. All the following are parts of a valve body accept shift valves. Well, shift valves are part of a valve body. It's all in there, and that achieves all your different shifts, whether it's for six, eight, ten speed transmissions.
Manuel Val, that's the one that we actually ship with our hand, and we're moving. That's inside of a valve body as well. TCC solenoid torque converter control. That's inside of an actual valve body too.
Vehicle speed sensors, well, they're usually located on the puts after the transmission measuring speed. A lot of times they're not in the actual valve body, so the accept answer is D. Vehicle speed sensor. Now, transmissions are complex, but understanding valve bodies is gonna help you pass that A2 automatic transmission and transaxle ASE exam.
