I show the complete engine removal procedure step-by-step from start to finish on my fourth gen F-body Trans Am. This was the first time I had pulled the engine out so there's a few things I'd do a little differently the next time around such as drain the engine block of coolant before pulling it. However, the process went smoothly overall.
Should be good reference material for those considering pulling their motor out of a fourth gen LT1-powered F-body car (Camaro, Firebird, Formula, Trans AM or Firehawk) or simply wanting to know more about what's involved. Though lengthy, it provides a detailed, accurate representation of all the required work for those considering doing the same. There are a few components installed onto the vehicle that are not stock, including a larger radiator (Griffin), underdrive pulley and shorty Edelbrock headers but beyond that, everything is identical to a factory set up.
This video is the first in a multi-part series that will capture my trans am's service life extension program (SLEP) that will be taking place over next few months where I will be performing major service work and/or upgrades to keep the bird flying for the next 7-10 years.
Here's a TOC for those that want to skip around to certain parts of the job:
