Jack and the Beanstalk is one of the most famous folktales ever told and dates back (in print) to 1734! The story of Jack and the Beanstalk tells the tall tale of magic beans, a grizzly giant, and Jack's temptation to steal valuable treasures to keep his mother's farm.

Jack is a young boy whose family doesn't have much money, so Jack's mum asks him to sell their family cow in exchange for money and food. Instead, Jack trades the cow for a handful of magic beans! His mum is very cross about this, and she throws the beans into the garden. The next day, Jack wakes up and notices a giant beanstalk has grown in his garden where the beans were, so he decides to climb up it. Once Jack reaches the top of the beanstalk, he realises he has entered a world of giants. The giants are scary and eat children, so Jack has to hide. Before escaping the world of giants, Jack steals a chicken that lays golden eggs and a magic harp. His mother chops down the beanstalk when he returns so that the giant can't chase him. The golden eggs make Jack's family lots of money, and they all live happily ever after!
