S1 E29: Thailand's Highest Mountain? Soaked & Stuck in the Mud | Mae Hong Son Loop Adventure

We’re back on the legendary Mae Hong Son Loop in northern Thailand, and what starts out as a promising riding day quickly turns into one of the wettest, muddiest challenges we’ve faced on this journey.
We roll out from a sleepy little village under clear skies, excited for another day of twisting mountain roads, iced coffee pit stops, and epic views. But just as we get into the rhythm, the clouds roll in — fast. Within minutes, we’re caught in a full-blown tropical storm. The kind where visibility drops, the road disappears under rushing water, and there’s nothing to do but seek shelter.
After waiting it out at a tiny roadside café, we think we’ve got a clear window and hit the road again… only to be ambushed by more rain. Maddi’s dad (a true hero on this trip!) surprises us with a cozy wellness homestay, and we finally dry off — for now.
But the next day, we’ve got a mission: reach Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain. The rain has other plans. We try again, but the roads are soaked, the trail to our accommodation turns into a mud bath, and soon we’re fighting just to stay upright. A sketchy bridge, deep puddles, and slippery ruts finally convince us to turn back. Sometimes, the smart thing is to admit defeat and live to ride another day.
We end up in a small town, eating pizza and watching YouTube — not what we planned, but sometimes the detours make the best stories.
Join us as we navigate unexpected storms, bond even more with our traveling crew, and remind ourselves that adventure isn’t always about sunshine — it’s about showing up, rain or shine.
