Taiyuan (LU9) – Key Functions (Focus: Shortness of Breath)
Location: On the wrist crease, radial to the radial artery (Lung Meridian).
Primary Actions:
Regulates Lung Qi – Core point for respiratory disorders, especially shortness of breath (dyspnea), asthma, or chronic cough.
Tonifies Qi – Strengthens weak lung/spleen Qi (common in fatigue-induced breathlessness).
Calms the Heart – Helps anxiety-related breathing difficulties (e.g., panic attacks).
Clinical Use for Dyspnea:
Deficiency-type (weak breathing, fatigue): Combine with Zusanli (ST36) to boost Qi.
Excess-type (wheezing, phlegm): Pair with Chize (LU5) to clear lung obstruction.
Emergency Aid: Acupressure on LU9 + Neiguan (PC6) for acute breathlessness.
Techniques:
Needling: Perpendicular insertion (0.3–0.5 cun) with mild tonification.
Moxibustion: For chronic cold-type asthma (5–10 mins).
Note: Avoid deep needling (radial artery nearby).
