Front Range Fire Rescue Authority recognized the life-saving efforts of four Authority firefighters, two UCHealth medics, and a Milliken police officer on Friday, March 31, 2017.
Responders were dispatched to a medical call in Milliken at 9:51 PM on February 18th. The first units arrived on scene in 4 minutes and found MPD Officer Kate Lines performing CPR on 14-year old Dylan Potthoff. UCHealth and FRFR crews (Captain John Davis, Lieutenant Chris Linder, Engineer Neil Ferrell, Firefighter Cole Stephenson, Medic Katie Siman, and EMT Michelle Korgan) assumed patient care regaining a pulse in route to the Medical Center of the Rockies where he was immediately airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Denver. Dylan’s recovery astounded his doctors and he was discharged 10 days later, stopping by the fire station with his mom and grandma to say, “thank you” first.
“The teamwork born out of a deep trust between the medical, law enforcement, and fire personnel in our community is truly amazing. For me and for the crews, the opportunity to get to know Dylan, Marcie, Laurie, and Don in the wake of this near-tragedy has been unbelievably special. As the father of a teenage son myself, words fall woefully short in situations like this where the pieces fall perfectly into place and magic happens.” said Chief Ron Bateman.
