Transcription of the final track of Frahm's new EP 'Night'.
A tranquil diatonic piece with one chromatic note (b7 in the bass on the very last chord). Same ending as 'Case of You' by Joni Mitchell. The piece is probably just in Db Major, but it sits so much on Gb (IV) that it starts to feel kinda modal. Fantastic spatial awareness in Frahm's original recording. Impressive to get 5 1/2 minutes of music out of such simple material.
I think Frahm is partially improvising when he records these pieces. Hard to capture all the nuances (especially pedalling and note duration). Best practice is probably to play it a little freely, changing details (accompaniment and rhythm) on the fly.
