Del Shannon (Charles Westover) was an American musician, singer and songwriter. 'Runaway' was his first hit and indeed his first No.1, remaining at the top of the UK chart for 3 weeks during a 19 week stay in 1961.
The song was a re-work of 'Little Runaway' which Del had composed with fellow musician Max Crook a few years earlier. Max had devised the unusual lead instrument on this track known as a Musitron Synthesizer.
This track played here on South Africa issue 78rpm London International PD8426.
