A quick trip to Gorizia Italy and Nova Gorica Slovenia

The town of Gorizia was only 1 hour away from where we were, so why not take a quick trip. The town of Gorizia became divided in 1947 when Istria and a large part of Venezia Guilia were ceded to Yugoslavia as part of the Treaty of Paris. The culture is unique as it is influenced by romance, Slavic, and Germanic people. One of the highlights is to see the imposing castle. It was a quiet afternoon, and we were able to walk about freely. The views from the castle are fantastic. Unfortunately, the castle interior is closed for maintenance (May 2023). At the Piazza Della Transalpina, you can stand on both of the borders of Italy and Slovenia at the same time. The site is directly across from the train station, and there is a tourist office inside.
