During the Disneyland Diamond Celebration, new nighttime shows were a hallmark. While Disneyland Park enjoyed their shiny new toys in the form of Paint the Night and Disneyland Forever, across the esplanade at California Adventure, a new “World of Color” took shape upon Paradise Bay. Disney superfan [and frequent WDW Candlelight narrator] Neil Patrick Harris joins up with Mickey Mouse [Bret’s Mickey, not Chris’] to take us through the ‘Wonderful World of Walt Disney.’
Where “Disneyland Forever” shows us the places the OG Magic Kingdom can take us to, “WoC:C” takes us through the legacy that the OG Dreamer left us - the creation of Mickey, an unparalleled body of animated work, and of course, his original Happy Place.
This would be the third version of World of Color since it premiered to a newly reimagined California Adventure. The second version - “Winter Dreams” (also known as Frozen Overload) - premiered in 2013, at the heels of the feature’s premiere. At the time of recording - holiday season AND Diamond Celebration at the same time - “WoC:WD” was presented in the 9:00 slot before “WoC:C” at 10:15. The cinematic version of “Let it Go”, which featured in “WoC:WD”, originally didn’t figure into “WoC:C”, but as I said in my Disneyland Forever video, this was the age where Frozen was a constant. While it ended up becoming this generation’s Lion King, it was still a weird era. [also, you’ll hear my friend Robbie sing along with it. Join in if you want.]
The original pre-premiere soundtrack • World of Color Celebrate! Pre Premiere Sou... also included more from Mickey and Neil’s grand circle tour around Disneyland, and a more conclusive segment featuring both Star Wars and Marvel characters. This was also the time where Disney’s first Star Wars movie since the Lucasfilm acquisition, “The Force Awakens,” was hitting theaters - it would premiere in 3 Hollywood theaters 2 nights after this recording, and the rest of the country by the end of the week. While Disney was justified in hyping up the new era of Star Wars, the Marvel segment was all but… ‘iced out’. [I know] The Marvel situation, however, was a slow burn, and reached fever pitch by the time “Avengers: Infinity War” came out, proving hindsight is 20/20. The only glimpse of Marvel characters would be at the finale, an error rectified upon the premiere of the Disney100-themed “World of Color: One.”
Meanwhile, you can see new technology - Mickey’s smile on his Fun Wheel (this is pre-Pixar Pier) becomes an additional portal to the magic; and a familiar tune joins the “World of Color” theme - the theme song from WDW’s “Celebrate the Magic” underlines the journey throughout. In fact, the tune actually originated from Tokyo • Видео . (“Recycle - It’s Your World too)
