Ourique é uma vila e município do Distrito de Beja com cerca de 4800 habitantes e localizada na região do Baixo Alentejo, na transição entre a planície a norte e a serra de Monchique, a sul.
A fundação da vila data de 711, ano da entrada dos muçulmanos na Península
Ibérica. Contudo, vários fatores apontam para uma existência mais recuada.
Em 25 de julho de 1139, tele lugar a Batalha de Ourique tendo a o rei D. Afonso Henriques, derrotado os mouros com a consequente tomada da vila.

Ourique is a town and municipality in the District of Beja with around 4800 inhabitants and located in the Baixo Alentejo region, in the transition between the plain to the north and the Monchique mountain range to the south. The town was founded in 711, the year Muslims entered the Peninsula
Iberian. However, several factors point to a more ancient existence.
On July 25, 1139, the Battle of Ourique took place, with King D. Afonso Henriques defeating the Moors and taking the town.
