Little Samson (1992) by Takeru It is one of the best and most expensive games for the system.
In a nutshell, it is the story of a kingdom that was once gripped by fear of the demon king until he was sealed away. But as we know, nothing lasts forever, and after some time, the demon breaks free and once again threatens the entire kingdom.
Seeing this, the emperor sends his army, but it is quickly decimated by the demon king's minions.
As a last resort, four heroes wielding magical bells that were once used to strip the demon king of his powerful powers are summoned to defeat evil.
A little-known game due to its once weak advertising campaign, today it fetches absurd prices.
Admittedly, it's not some piece of crap, but a full-fledged top-shelf title from the NES library.
The game is an action platformer focused on the cooperation of four different characters.
Each of them is useful in different circumstances, and wise management of their abilities is the key to success.
Samson is the most balanced hero, with a fast ranged attack and the ability to climb walls. Kikira, the team's dragon, can hover in the air and breathe fire in two modes, normal and powerful. In addition, thanks to her claws, she is the only character who does not slip in the winter level.
Gamm, the golem of the team, is a slow but highly survivable member of the team. His skin is so hard that he can move on spikes, and his deadly close-range attacks can hurt.
K.O. is a mouse that, thanks to its small size, can go where others cannot. In addition, it can climb walls and walk on ceilings. Its form of defense is a kind of mine that explodes upon contact with an opponent or after a certain amount of time has elapsed. It also has the smallest amount of health, so you have to be careful when playing with it.
The game consists of many different levels where we will be able to test our heroes' abilities to the limit, and because the game is not exactly a walk in the park, it will require skill on our part.
Fortunately, it is so good that the motivation to complete it is enormous.
Graphically, Little Samson is definitely above average for the capabilities of the NES.
The music is good, although repetitive, as each character has their own theme that always accompanies them when they appear on screen, although there is a different one during boss fights.
Speaking of bosses, there are plenty to choose from, and each fight is basically different, although not all of them have been programmed well enough to use different characters during them.
However, it must be admitted that these fights are engaging, and we will often repeat them because they are not the easiest.
This is because, in most cases, boss fights consist of two different fights in a row.
First, we fight the wizard, and then the beast. I don't know if it's the same character after transformation or two different entities but whatever.
Little Samson is a solid, even outstanding experience from start to finish, created with care and passion.
You can feel that everything here has been carefully crafted within the budget and time constraints of the developers.
I highly recommend this game, although to buy it you need to have a lot of spare cash... which I don't have and probably never will, so the game will not be added to my modest collection......ever.
