【凄いぞ！この橋】第一白川橋梁

＜橋の概要＞
第一白川橋梁は、熊本県の白川が流下する立野峡谷に架かる、南阿蘇鉄道のシンボルとなる鉄道橋です。2016年熊本地震で大きな被害を受けましたが、地域住民や支援者の強い要望により架け替えが行われました。架け替え前の橋は、橋長154.673ｍの2ヒンジスパンドレル・ブレースト・バランスドアーチと呼ばれる日本でも希少なアーチ橋であり、昭和2年に完成させた先人達の貴重な技術の結晶とその優れた景観美から、2015 年度に選奨土木遺産として選出された橋でした。
架け替えは、鉄道橋としての構造機能や耐震性能を向上させることはもとより、架け替え前の景観美を構成する構造形式・部材の断面寸法・色彩を踏襲し、震災前の景観美を復活させるコンセプトとして設計を実施し、同形式にて架け替え復旧を2023年3月に完了しました。下部工は既設基礎を活用し補強を行いました。
熊本震災復興シンボルである「南阿蘇鉄道 第一白川橋梁」は、2023年７月15日に南阿蘇鉄道は全線開通し、震災から約７年の時を経て地域住民や観光客の大きな喜びやにぎわいが戻るとともに、第一白川橋梁は南阿蘇鉄道のシンボルとして、これからも多くの人々に長く愛され、後世に引き継がれる橋として生まれ変わりました。

＜Bridge overview＞
The First Shirakawa Bridge in Kumamoto Prefecture is a symbolic railway bridge of Minami Aso Railway, and it spans the Tachino Canyon, where the Shirakawa River flows. The bridge was severely damaged due to the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake but was reconstructed at the strong request of local residents and supporters.
The original bridge was a rare arch bridge even in Japan, known as a 2-hinge spandrel-braced balanced arch bridge, and had a length of 154.673 meters. Completed in 1927, the bridge stands as an invaluable crystallization of civil engineering expertise by the predecessors and an outstanding scenic beauty, earning it recognition as a Civil Engineering Heritage in 2015.
The reconstructed bridge not only had an improved structural capacity and seismic performance as a railway bridge, but also preserved the structural form, the bridge members’ cross-sectional dimensions, and the colors that defined the scenic beauty of the original bridge. Implementing this design concept, the bridge was fully restored in March 2023. The substructure was reinforced using the existing foundations of the original bridge.
Minami Aso Railway’s First Shirakawa Bridge is a symbol of the Kumamoto earthquake recovery, On July 15th, 2023, Minami Aso Railway reopened all of its railway lines, bringing great joy and excitement back to the local residents and tourists for the first time after roughly seven years since the earthquake. As a symbol of Minami Aso Railway, the First Shirakawa Bridge will forever continue to be loved by its people and be passed on to future generations.【JSCE Award】
