Swedish mid-century drop lamp by Luxus in Vittsjö, organic modernist lighting

A recent find – an unusually large Luxus pendant lamp. The drop-shaped model ‘546,’ designed in the 1950s by Uno & Östen Kristiansson, crafted from oak and opaline glass.

Uno Kristiansson (1925-2009) began his career in the lighting business by working with stage lighting in the 1940s. In 1950, he teamed up with his brother Östen and founded the company Luxus in the small community of Vittsjö in the south of Sweden. After a brief period working as a lighting designer in the US, he returned to Vittsjö in 1957 and continued designing lamps, many of which are highly sought after today. In the 1970s, Luxus shifted its focus entirely to public lighting, marking the end of the era of psychedelic patterns and solid teak & oak.
