NB you must use sunflower seeds in the shell for planting. Hulled sunflower seeds sold for eating will not sprout.
1. Soak sunflower seeds overnight (oprional but speeds up sprouting)
2 . Dig a patch into your front lawn with a hoe or other implement
3. Add any soil improver as you would like – e.g. potting mix, manure, compost, seaweed.
4. Mulch well – with cardboard, straw, dried out grass that wasdug out from your patch (see method in video)
5. Punch holes into the cardboard and plant your seeds directly into the soil.
6. Protect from predators with physical guards (see video) or an organic snail bait such as those containing copper or iron.
7. Water your seeds every second day (depending on rainfall)
8. In 8 to 10 weeks you are sunflowers will bloom into big orbs of golden joy
