Russia's Lavrov questions Europe's role in Ukraine talks

Russia's foreign minister has rejected the idea of including Europe in talks between the US and Russia aimed at ending the war in Ukraine. In a press conference with his Serbian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov stated, "If they plan to come up with manipulative ideas about freezing the conflict while secretly intending – as is their nature – to prolong the war, then why should we invite them?"

European leaders, uneasy about US President Donald Trump's openness to direct talks with the Kremlin over Ukraine, have been seeking to secure a role for themselves in the discussions.
