Here we have a bunch of clips that I have already uploaded onto Youtube. I had edited out what I though as wasteful camera shaking and otherwise less footage. But after reading the comments I decided to go ahead and re record off the original VHS tape a 14 minute segment of all the footage than I have unedited just in case someone enjoys that kind of thing. In a way I guess it shares the whole experience a little bit better than just the clips.
I do remember that this was not the only time that the # 5 went to Tacoma. But this is the only video that I have of the # 5 in Tacoma.
This line is really steep starting right at that short trestle. The Milwaukee Road built through here after the other railroad had so The Milwaukee had to take second choice for routes to get south to Portland, Oregon so this line had to jump up and over this hill since the water is just on the other side of the other right of way.
After the Milwaukee Road ran its last train out of Tacoma in 1980 the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Corporation bought this segment of run down mainline and rebuilt it up to 40 MPH standards and at this time was running 100 car log trains down to the port but almost always Monday through Friday Only and this was a Saturday near the Summer Solstice.
You might also notice in a couple of spots you see The Milwaukee Road s unique switch stand flags.
I hope that you enjoy this and thank you for watching!
