Smog Test Chronicles: Part 2

Round 2 of trying to get passing smog test for Vinnie’s limo, and this time I invited Sonny for the 100+ mile ride. We drove down the 405 for awhile, and hit a lot of beach back streets as well, but that damn smog test device wouldn’t give us all the green check marks we need. So we drive more, this time staying on highways, and punching the gas getting up to speeds of 94mph in this monster. The limo’s engine was recently restored by my mechanic Beto, so she moves quick and smooth. Only has 131K miles on it, plenty of life left.

We drove over 100 miles, spent hours doing it, and nothing. It felt extra defeating pulling into secured parking lot in Long Beach, sun setting, and with an unsuccessful smog test AGAIN.

What else does one do, when faced with this outcome... smoke a joint and listen to METAL of course! I gave Sonny one of my killer Fresh Baked joints, and I lit up mine. New rule for stoners is that you smoke your own joint now, no more sharing. I love this new rule!

I decided to see if the horn worked. So I pressed it, it worked, but it just never shut off?! The horn was blasting LOUD, and I knew the only way to stop it was to turn off the battery killswitch key (that mysteriously turned off in Part 1 of my smog test chronicles). That would erase the mileage Sonny and I spent all day putting on the limo in order to pass the damn frikkin smog test?!?

Sonny’s laughing makes me lose it, but at the time I was super pissed, and don’t remember him laughing so much. It is funny... NOW. After coming to ease about another loss, I felt like Vinnie and Dimebag were f’in with me big time, laughing their asses off up in heaven! That made me believe that try number 3 would be the one that worked.

Days later I tried it again by myself, drove over 140 miles on it, and finally got a successful smog test result, and the necessary paperwork to complete transfer of the limo. It wasn’t easy, but third time was a charm, and always bet on 3!

Next up... trying to find a body shop that will work with us to fix the RUST FROM HELL that has built up on Vinnie’s limo for years. So far four have passed.
