Today was the most intense day of the entire trek. Our mission was simple: cross the mighty Chobia Pass (approx. 4966m / 16,300ft) and descend into the breathtaking Lahaul region.

But a small mistake from the day before—camping too low at Baggi (3300m) instead of the ideal base camp, Alyas (3800m)—meant an extra 500 meters of altitude gain right at the start. This small decision ended up costing us dearly.

🐻 Close Encounters of the Wild Kind!
Leaving before 4 AM in complete darkness, the excitement of the Lahaul Valley kept us pushing forward. But as the first light hit the slopes, we were completely caught off guard.

In this episode, we have not one, but three close encounters with the magnificent Himalayan Brown Bear. Watching a massive male sprint across the valley was a sight, but spotting a female with her cubs—the most dangerous combination—forced us to freeze in our tracks. The third encounter was even closer!

🏔️ Lost, Exhausted, and the Emergency Call
After the initial adrenaline rush, the real challenge began. High altitude, heavy bags, low oxygen, and a continuous climb started hitting the team. Our fastest trekker struggled with an injury, and one member was battling high-altitude sickness for the first time.

Then, the unthinkable happened: confusion and overconfidence led us completely off the actual trail. As we realized our mistake, the clouds rolled in from every side.

"Boss... we won't be able to cross the pass today. We're late."

With the path, the ridge, and the pass swallowed by thick clouds, and snow beginning to fall, we were forced to make the toughest call: set up an emergency camp in a sacred area where camping is generally forbidden.
