Woman run over by jeep during Black Lives Matter protest in Visalia, California

A protester was run over by a Jeep during a protest in Visalia, central California on Saturday (May 30), as demonstrations continue to escalate across the United States after the death of George Floyd, a Minneapolis black man who died after being pinned by the neck by a police officer.

Video obtained by Reuters showed a blue Jeep with an American flag and a Trump flag running over a protester as people chanted "f**k Trump" in Visalia, a city 190 miles north of Los Angeles.

The woman who was run over later tweeted that she was okay. "They came here to taunt us, I came out here to protest for black lives peacefully," tweeted @karinastinks. She later posted a photo of her protest sign with tire tread marks.

Thousands have gathered in major U.S. cities for a third day after graphic video footage showed Floyd gasping for air and pleading for help as he groaned "I can't breathe" while a crowd of anguished bystanders shouted at police to let the man up.

The video has since reignited an outpouring of rage that has long simmered in cities across the United States over persistent racial bias in the country's criminal justice system.
