The World's Hardest Game 4 is a great game to mess around with and do all sorts of wacky stuff in.
In september last year, someone posed the idea of an all wrong paths speedrun. While it sounds dumb at first, I quickly realized that this could be pretty interesting with glitches. With the power of savewarping, you can take all the wrong paths and also avoid having to take all the right paths. You do need hardcore mode for this, which I’ll explain below.
This run primarily shows off some things in C4/C3.
First an alternate cutscene skip, by being on the very edge of the floor and chilling right next to the key, which became obsolete after I realized I could just skip the cutscene by storing it.
Then, by leaving the key there to be grabbed later, an alternate setup for the newly found platform teleport, that doesn’t require a deathpause (making it more convenient for hardcore mode).
And of course most notably, the “wrong path” in C4. Every platform besides the conveyor just leads to an instant death, but you can still take another platform and subsequently skip to the end of C3, by enabling autosaving to save in C3 and then quickly disable autosaving to NOT save respawning in B1. Loading during the death will just lead to death storage, which doesn’t save the progress, but loading after the death works fine.
This skip saves a decent amount of time in a glitched run, but unfortunately it’s exclusive to hardcore mode. That’s because the checkpoint that I savewarp to depends on the checkpoint I touched last. In regular mode, that’s the checkpoint in B4, which just so happens to be one of the only rooms with two checkpoints. Since I touched the second checkpoint in B4 last, if I savewarp in C3, the game will try to place me in the second checkpoint in C3, which doesn’t exist, so I softlock. However, in hardcore mode the last checkpoint I touched is the first checkpoint in B1, so the game puts me at the first checkpoint in C3 (as well as in every other room), which does exist. This means that a full game glitched hardcore mode run would be able to use C3 skip, but some other skips would become impossible or require alternate methods. I don’t have any plans for this, though it would be a pretty good meme.
I was initially planning to do a glitched IL speedrun on hardcore mode, which would’ve just been the same thing as the regular glitched IL except I skip one trip through C4, which does make it superior. I would’ve called this the ‘L3 trifecta’ but ultimately I dismissed that and decided to just make a short clip of it at some point instead. Then the ‘all wrong paths’ idea introduced a new possibility; implementing the skip in a full IL speedrun that also performs a savewarp in nearly every room, showing how broken hardcore mode can be. This was so silly, I just had to make it an april fools video, continuing my bi-yearly tradition.
Here’s a description from when this was still intended to april fool people:
I’ve finally done a speedrun on hardcore mode! Despite being pretty much the same as performing a deathless IL, which I’ve already done multiple times, this level turned out extremely fast! I’m thinking about doing more hardcore mode speedruns, this definitely doesn’t sound like a terrible idea
