The Exxon Valdez oil spill on March 24, 1989 was a disaster for the tiny fishing village of Cordova, Alaska. I went there in the week following the spill with reporter Lee Hochberg from the Seattle public TV station to document what was happening. I had never before seen an entire community in a state of panic and anger. The fishermen of Cordova were making a desperate attempt to mitigate the damage to Prince William Sound and their way of life. This is the report that aired on PBS's McNeil-Lehrer News Hour ten days after the spill.
