This crossing is located on the BNSF Seattle Subdivision.

Bell sequence: Bells ring until gates rise.

Horn setting: Horn zone.

Modern Industries cantilever on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20" lights with Dialight Ball LEDs.

Gate mast on the left: A WCH base, a US&S Model 95 gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights and 1 pair of Safetran 12x20" lights with Dialight Ball LEDs.

Safetran cantilever on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20" lights with Dialight Ball LEDs.

Gate mast on the right: A WCH base, a US&S Model 95 gate mechanism with RECO LED gate lights, 1 pair of Safetran 12x20" lights with Dialight Ball LEDs and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.

On August 16th, I spent much of the day railfanning around the Seattle and Puget Sound area. I came up to this crossing once I finish recording the nice crossings around Puyallup and Waller. Although I head missed a northbound BNSF oil train after arriving, there was a northbound Amtrak Cascades train not far behind it. About 20 minutes later, the crossing activated, and this northbound Amtrak Cascades bound for Seattle King Street station came flying through with the usual Siemens SC-43 charger leading and an NPCU on the rear sandwiching three Anfleet coaches.

This crossing was a pretty nice one. The crossing features a mix of different signals at it. The near cantilever is Safetran, which would’ve been installed by BN sometime in the 1980s, while the far cantilever is a Modern Industries one installed around the late 1980s or early 1990s. The gate masts and gateless signal were installed around 1999-2000 for the introduction of the Sounder Commuter Rail service. The lights were originally incandescent, with BNSF retrofitting the lights with Dialight Ball LEDs sometime in the late 2010s. Around the same time, the original GS Type 1 E-Bell on the gateless signal was replaced with the current GS Type 3 E-Bell. No other changes would occur until this month.

On September 15th, a southbound Amtrak Cascades train struck a car, hitting the near gated signal. The Safetran cantilever only sustained minor damage and has been kept, but the gated mast was replaced with a new signal sporting a GS Type 3 E-Bell. Sadly, the occupant in the vehicle that was hit did not survive.
