A Stark County Sheriff’s Inspector, William Jones, is now facing OVI charges after a reported drunk-driving incident. Jackson Township Police body camera footage reveals officers encountering Jones, visibly intoxicated, following a crash on Wednesday around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of Dressler Rd NW and Belden Village St NW in Canton.
Witnesses reported that Jones, who was allegedly behind the wheel of a Jeep Wrangler, attempted to flee the scene. A woman with Jones claimed to own the vehicle but stated she was a passenger at the time of the crash. When questioned by police, Jones refused to cooperate, reportedly stating, “I don’t answer questions” and requested to contact Sheriff George Maier, saying, “Call George! I know George; I was at his campaign reelection.”
After refusing a breathalyzer test at the Jackson Township Safety Center, Jones was placed on administrative leave. In response, the Stark County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to integrity and the law, noting that Jones’ case would be treated with due diligence and that the community's safety remains a priority.
