How to Name Indian Club Circles
Over the years, I've struggled with some of the naming conventions for Indian club circles. Five circles are very commonly used. The first one is a straight-arm circle, and that's the name old manuals use. Next is the bent arm back shoulder circle. Followed by the straight arm wrist circle at shoulder height. Next, perform the wrist circle on the opposite shoulder, also at shoulder height. The final one is the back hip circle.
One of the biggest challenges I faced while teaching in Korea was the need for translation. So I started by giving the circles a number, and I use those numbers to this day because it's very easy once you memorise them: one, two, three, four, and five.
The numbers work as follows.
Straight arm circle is number one.
The back shoulder circle is number two.
The wrist straight arm wrist circle is number three.
The opposite shoulder circle is number four.
The back hip circle is number five.
Make sure to watch the video to the end to see a demonstration linking various circle combinations.
The first sequence demonstrated two circle combinations, and the latter part three circle combinations.
