Why do infants tend to have watery eyes or some kind of discharge? Renowned eye specialist in Delhi, Dr. Tushar Sardana explains the cause and treatment options of this eye condition in this video.

He says, watering or discharge can last up to 5 days after birth in newborns. The first step he advises is to clean with wet cotton.

The discharge usually stops in about 8 days.

Persistent cases may require a doctor's consultation.

The primary cause of watery eyes in newborns is Congenital Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction. The solution is something called Crigler massage.

Before getting to it, one should wash hands thoroughly and trim the nails as precautionary measures.

Around 40 massages daily guarantee a success rate of about 96%. Doctor consultation and guidance are essential to know the right method of massaging.
