Climbing Volcano

Ulanhada Volcanic Geopark is located in Chayouhou Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia, close to Hohhot or Datong City. It is a geological landscape mainly composed of grassland volcanic groups and lava landforms. Its popularity increased significantly due to its appearance on the cover of China National Geographic in 2015. The Ulan Hada volcanic group has gone through two geological periods, the Late Pleistocene and the Holocene. The last eruption occurred about 2000 years ago, and its fissure eruption is now only visible in Iceland. There are more than 30 volcanoes in the scenic area, among which volcanoes 3-8 are relatively intact, especially volcano 3456 is spectacular. Volcano No. 5 is the most well preserved, with different colors throughout the four seasons, but climbing is more laborious and requires attention to safety. Due to geological weathering and human exploitation, some volcanic formations have been destroyed. Volcanic rock has a light texture and is commonly used for insulation or water purifier filters. The scenic area has strong winds and unique volcanic crater terrain, which is worth exploring.
