The poetry used in Kathak is often ancient and has been passed down from generation to generation. It is considered an important aspect of Kathak because it helps to preserve the culture and tradition of the dance form.
Thumri
The term "thumri" is derived from the Bhojpuri verb thumak, which means "to walk with a dancing gait in such a way that the ankle-bells tinkle." The form is, thus, connected with dance, dramatic gestures, evocative love poetry and folk songs.expressing divine love of radha and krishna.
