Grand Canyon of PA!! The Pine Creek Rail Trail

The Pine Creek Rail Trail is one of Pennsylvania’s destination trails, and for good reason. The 62-mile well-maintained trail runs at the bottom of scenic Pine Creek Gorge, commonly called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. On smooth crushed stone, the mostly level trail runs from Stokesdale Junction, outside of Wellsboro, PA to Jersey Shore, PA. There is a 2% grade along the entire route. The finely crushed limestone surface is best suited for hybrid bikes. Only Class 1 ebikes are permitted on this trail.

The Darling Run access parking area is the northern access to the PA Grand Canyon and one of the most popular areas to start a bike ride or walk/run. The 16 miles from Darling Run to Blackwell is the most secluded and pristine. Around mile point 13 stop to hike up the Turkey Path – a hiking trail that winds its way to the top of the canyon to the Leonard Harrison State Park lookout area. This ride took place on May, 23, 2024.

🚗 Car Shuttle Service – there are a couple of services I found on the internet (NOTE: these are not endorsements as we did not use a shuttle): Pine Creek Outfitters in Ansonia, and Pine Creek Shuttle Service (located on the Southern end of the trail).

🛌Places to stay that are right on the trail: Ludwig’s Trailside B&B, Blackwell; Cedar Run Inn, Cedar Run; Waterville Hotel, Waterville.
