Key Things You Missed in Today’s Trial!

In this courtroom update from the ongoing trial involving Iris Koh, Jipson Quah, and Thomas Chua, I share the key highlights from the morning session of September 15, 2025.

Iris Koh’s counsel submitted an application to step down from the proceedings. The judge advised Iris on the implications of representing herself — including the responsibilities she would take on and the importance of maintaining a professional working relationship with the prosecution.

After a 45-minute break to consider the situation, it was confirmed that Mr. Wee would officially step down. Both parties described the decision as peaceful and mutual.

Iris then delivered a long, emphatic message in court, which is publicly available on her Facebook profile. She was seen crying after delivering her statement.

She also made several requests regarding her self-representation:

The potential support of a McKenzie friend
Use of a table to organise her materials during proceedings
A request to cross-examine witnesses after the other self-representing accused parties

The judge later clarified procedures around the witness order and notice periods. He explained there is no fixed protocol — it depends on how the trial unfolds. The judge used an example to illustrate: if the prosecution calls a new witness not listed initially, they typically notify the defense. But in other cases, standard court protocol applies.
