The Mozart Dinner, at the Grand Hotel Bohemia in Prague, is a perfect way to experience a little bit of opera in beautiful surroundings, accompanied by a three-course dinner and drinks.
This video gives you a taste of the performance, which starts with the Baritone (Daniel Klánský), previously acting as a waiter, performing the famous aria 'Notte e giorno faticar' (Slaving night and day).
We arrived in the foyer of the Grand Hotel Bohemia at 6.30pm and made our way down to the stunning neo-Baroque Boccaccio Ballroom, where our box was waiting.
Built in 1927 and named after the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio, the Boccaccio Ballroom is a sight to behold—there simply aren't enough superlatives to describe its grandeur. Completely flooded in 2002, the ballroom has been restored to its former glory.
We could see the stage and diners in the main ballroom.
We had the beef menu with the all-inclusive drinks in a private box package. It's possible to purchase a ticket just for the concert and pay for any drinks separately. Similarly, you can purchase concert and dinner which includes a welcome drink, or no dinner and just drinks.
We were soon enjoying a good bottle of Merlot.
At 7pm, the lights dimmed and the first of three 20-minute performances began - a perfect duration for anyone who is worried they won't endure over three hours of Don Giovanni. Despite the 'opera-light' package, the musician ensemble and performers are all excellent professionals and regulars at Prague's National Theatre.
A tasty cream of sweet pea soup with chive yogurt and croutons arrived.
We didn't feel rushed and were ready for another 20-minute performance.
Our main course, Beef Bourguignon with potatoes and vegetables, was more a braised beef dish rather than a stew, but it carried the flavors of classic Beef Bourguignon.
The final 20-minute performance was followed by rapturous applause and a dessert of apple strudel with vanilla sauce.
The single bottle of wine was enough for us, although we could have ordered more. We also had coffee.
We really enjoyed our visit. The Mozart Dinner is a treat for both tourists and locals alike.
