Russia jails four journalists over alleged links to late Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny

Russia has sentenced four journalists to more than five years in jail over their alleged links to former Kremlin critic and Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny.

The journalists were accused of working with the late Alexei Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation, which is designated as an extremist organisation.

Mr Navalny was the Kremlin’s fiercest critic – he died early last year in a remote Arctic penal colony.

Prosecutors accused the four of providing content for his YouTube channel and therefore charged them with taking part in extremist activities.

The four have denied the charges against them and claimed they were doing their job as journalists.
