Tuberculosis is the most common disease in India, and its symptoms often resemble those of silicosis. As a result, doctors frequently misdiagnose patients with TB rather than silicosis, which leads to underreporting of silicosis cases. "The biggest reason," PK Sishodiya explains, "is that this has many legal and government obligations. Therefore the government finds it difficult to acknowledge it. Unless you address silicosis, you cannot defeat tuberculosis. TB is a treatable disease, whereas silicosis is not."
