In this video I demonstrate how to use an increment borer to core a Ponderosa pine tree. I address how to choose the correct location along the trunk to avoid too much bark, which can gum up the inside of a core, or reaction wood in growth due to microtopography or disturbance. Additionally, I explain how to hopefully achieve the pith (oldest growth/cells) when coring, while understanding that capturing the pith doesn't always happen.
