Tessa Winger was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, stage 2, at the age of 16. Having cancer made her realize that life is precious. After she was diagnosed she set and achieved goals to get married and become a mother. Twelve years later the doctors discovered that the cancer had returned. It was at stage 4 and had spread throughout her body. At first, she was angry. She had been going to yearly appointments and the cancer was never caught, even though it had been growing for years. But she realized that if they had caught it before, she would not have had the opportunity to become a mother—chemotherapy kills your cells, making it no longer possible to have kids. She is ready to fight for her life. Battling cancer only makes her faith stronger, and she always needs God in her life. Tessa is a mother, a cancer survivor, and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
