Ardhanareeswara Ashtakam
Lord Ardhanareeswara whose one half is goddess parvathi representing the female principle and the other half of whom is Lord Shiva representing the male principle denotes two completely different energies in one single entity . She is adorned with the fragrance of the champa flowers and he is adorned with the fragrance of camphor . She wear the beautiful red kungum on her forehead and he wears ashes from the funeral pyre on his , the Bhasma . She has beautiful locks of soft long hair and he has long unruly tresses . She wears beautiful clothes , jewels and flower garlands around her neck and he wears nothing but the sky as his clothing , has snakes as his ornaments and skull garlands around his neck . She sits in the traditional birthing position . She is the universal mother . She creates . He stands with one leg lifted . He is the universal father . He destroys . She does the graceful dance of lasya and he does the dance of thandava . And together they maintain the crucial between creation and desolation in the universe .
