🌉 About the Old Demerara Harbour Bridge

The Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB), commissioned in 1978, is one of the longest floating bridges in the world, spanning 1.8 kilometers (1.13 miles) across the Demerara River. It connects Georgetown on the East Bank to West Bank Demerara, serving tens of thousands of vehicles daily. Despite being vital for decades, the floating bridge suffers from congestion, frequent retractions for ships, and constant maintenance challenges.

🏗 About the New Demerara River Bridge

The New Demerara River Bridge is being constructed just upriver from the old DHB. Unlike the floating bridge, this new structure is a fixed, four-lane, high-span bridge designed for modern traffic and uninterrupted 24/7 service. It will stretch 2.6 km with:
