Oslob, Philippines has become popularly siginificant for its controversial whale shark watching.
A world famous tourist activity where visitors can witness these gentle giants up close in their natural habitat. Tourists can not only observe these majestic sea creatures, they can also dive, take pictures and experience a close encoubter with the gentle shark.
The whale shark is considered the biggest fish in the world. They are known for their unique stripes and white spots pattern on their dark skin. These magnificent features are mainly the reason why many tourists are attracted and would visit the Philippines to take the chance to witness and swim with these giants.
To be able to get the whale sharks to shallow waters, Fishermen feed these amazing creatures to lure them. Visitors from all over the world on board the boats will then get the chance to view and interact with these spectacular creatures up close.
Although, this tourist attraction raises concerns and issues about the impact on the whale sharks natural behavior and marine ecosystem, but the local government unit of Oslob along with the several tour operators have put their conservation efforts to ensure sustainable practices are followed and observed to protect these magnificent animals.
Surely, this tourist activity has drawn huge numbers of visitors from around the globe. And I am grateful enough to have this chance to experience the whale shark up close with my special person on one of the most important days of my life.
If you are planning to have Oslob whale shark watching part of your travel bucketlist this year, getting around is really not that complicated.
From the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, you can rent a car or a taxi that will take you directly to Oslob from Cebu City.
There are also public buses available at the Cebu South Bus Terminal. Travelling to Oslob from Cebu City takes about 3-4 hours.
Once you are in Oslob, head to baranggay Tan-awan whwre the famous whale sharks can be found. You will find several tour operators in the area offerring whale shark watching services. Be sure to follow guidelines to ensure responsible tourism practices.
For a smooth-sailing transactions, I can suggest to book your slot ahead of time to avoid long que. There are various tour agents who offer booking services to ensure a hassle-free whale shark watching experience.
I personally can recommend the OSLOB New Village booking agent. This is also a great place to stay while you are exploring Oslob. They have nice room accommodations and they actually offer tour packages aside from the famous whale shark watching.
