Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we have a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 and we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 air helper springs. When it comes to towing with a GMC Sierra 1500, there's a couple of side effects that you'll get and one of them is that you get a lot of sag in the rear end of the truck. They design the truck to be very, very comfortable when you're driving them down the road, but from that you get a very, very soft rear suspension on it and that is what's causing the sag when you put a heavy load on it. These airbags are going to help to support the rear end of the truck when you're hauling a heavy load. There's a lot of other options for suspension enhancements out there like Timbrens or SumoSprings.

There's also a RoadActive suspension, which is a coil spring you get added to the top of your leaf pack, but this one in particular is going to be adjustable so that you can add and subtract air for the ride that you're wanting. This kit's gonna be rated for a max psi rating of 100 psi and a max load carrying capacity of 5,000 pounds. Now 5,000 pounds, that's a big number. People will think of it and go, oh well that might change my load carrying capacity of my truck and it does not. That is strictly just to show you how strong these bags are and that they're going to hold up to whatever you want to throw at 'em.

You do want to follow what your owner's manual says, your payload or your GVWR of your vehicle is allowed to be for you to safely drive your vehicle down the road. Now as far as the location of these airbags is, they're going to actually replace your jounce bumpers. It's pretty difficult to see inside of here, but you can see that they're going to mount to the bottom side of our frame rail and the top of our axle and that is where they're going to supply the support. What I will say is that these particular airbags are going to have a jounce bumper on the inside, which will help to add support if you don't have quite enough air in them. This particular kit is going to come with two manual fills on the back.

That is not a unique thing, but what I highly recommend is pairing it with an onboard air compressor. Anytime I install a set of airbags, I always recommend installing an onboard air compressor because that is going to make you want to use your airbags more. If you are constantly having to pull out a bike pump to air up your airbags or stop at a gas station and fill 'em up and take air out, it's a huge hassle. If you add an onboard air compressor, you can add and subtract air while you're driving down the road. Now that we've gone over some of those features, let's go ahead and show you how to get 'em installed.

To begin our installation, you'll want to get your spare tire down and out of your way. That'll give you more room to be able to work and see what you're doing under here. And then we'll come to our heat shield. We have six bolts that we need to remove with a 13 millimeter socket. (socket whirring) Next, we'll come over to our brake line here and we'll get a little bracket in our kit that'll allow us to drop this and essentially we just need to get this brake line lower so we can put some brackets in place. We'll use a 13 millimeter socket for that too. (socket whirring) Take this little bracket, we're gonna take our factory bolt and we'll put it right back into place. We're gonna do this on both sides of the vehicle and we'll grab one of the shorter black bolts that comes in our kit, a flat washer. We're going to line our bracket up with the new bracket we just mounted. Put that bolt into place and then follow it with a nylon lock nut. Now we're gonna grab a torque wrench and we're gonna torque these to the specifications in the instructions. Next up here on this bracket for some of our brake lines, we've got these two bolts. They're 13 millimeters. (socket whirring) Gonna run those out. (socket whirring) And then while we're here, we're just gonna pop those two factory bolts out. We'll grab one of our pipe spacers and the longer bolt with a washer on it. Slide this through and we'll run it right back into that nut. And we can tighten these down.
