The History:
In an effort to modernize Mohawk and set the mountain up for years to come, Mohawk began to phase out all of its Carlevaro & Savio double chairs during the late 2000s. The first of the lifts to be replaced was the Mohawk Double, a 1960 Carlevaro & Savio double that had been upgraded by CTEC and Borvig over the years. Mohawk sourced a 1981 CTEC triple that was formerly the Widowmaker Triple at Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia. Mohawk installed this lift in the summer of 2008. In the coming years, Mohawk would install three other triple chairlifts to replace the mountain's aging doubles. Until 2013, only the Mohawk Triple and the Boulder Summit Triple reached the summit, but the installation of the Arrowhead Triple means that there are now three summit lifts. Because of its age, Boulder Summit runs the least out of all three of these lifts.
The Lift:
The Mohawk Triple was originally located at Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia where it was the Widowmaker Triple. There, it was installed by CTEC in 1981 and ran until 2006 when it was replaced by a high speed quad. It was installed at Mohawk in the summer of 2008 and remained almost entirely original. It uses an odd CTEC bottom return terminal with a structure very similar to an Enterprise terminal, but with no motor room. Its counterweight tensioning system is located at the bottom return as well. For its top drive, it also uses a rather odd tri-legged design with a custom motor room. Mohawk utilizes early CTEC towers, carried over from Thiokol and early CTEC sheaves as well. Somewhat surprisingly, the carriers are CTEC's 2nd generation bail carriers and not the original design used on Thiokol lifts. Capacity and design speed are not listed, but it seems to run at around 400 ft/min. Design speed is likely 465 ft/min as that was the design speed when it was located at Snowshoe.
