പതിനഞ്ചാം വയസ്സില്‍ സ്വന്തം സഹപാഠിയുടെ മൃതദേഹം വെള്ളത്തില്‍ നിന്നെടുത്ത് തുടങ്ങിയ ശവംവാരല്‍. പൊള്ളിയതും തൂങ്ങിയതും അഴുകിയതും വെള്ളംകുടിച്ച് ചീര്‍ത്തതും ട്രെയിനിടിച്ചതുമായ മൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ ആലുവക്കാരന്‍ വിനുവിന്റെ കൈകളിലൂടെ ഇക്കാലയളവിനുള്ളില്‍ കടന്നുപോയി. മൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ അനാഥമാണെങ്കില്‍ ഏറ്റെടുത്ത് സംസ്‌കരിക്കുന്നതും വിനുതന്നെയാണ്. മൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ ഏറ്റെടുത്ത് അടക്കി ശ്മശാനങ്ങളില്‍ കടം വന്ന് കിടപ്പാടം തന്നെ വില്‍ക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്. പകരം ശവംവാരി എന്ന പേര് പതിച്ചുനല്‍കി സമൂഹത്തില്‍ നിന്നും കുടുംബത്തില്‍ നിന്നും ഒറ്റപ്പെട്ടു. തിരിഞ്ഞുനോക്കുമ്പോള്‍ വിനുവിന് സമാധാനമുണ്ട്. ആയിരത്തോളം അനാഥമൃതദേഹങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് സ്വന്തക്കാരനായി നിന്നുകൊണ്ട് സംസ്‌കരിക്കാന്‍ കഴിഞ്ഞു; നാളെ താനും മടങ്ങേണ്ടത് മണ്ണിലേക്കുതന്നെ എന്ന ബോധ്യത്തോടെ. വാടകവീടുകളില്‍ നിന്നും വാടകവീടുകളിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോഴും മരിച്ചവരെ അടക്കാനായി സ്വന്തമായൊരു ശ്മശാനം വേണമെന്നാണ് വിനുവിന്റെ ആഗ്രഹം.

Inshort: At fifteen, Vinu's path of handling the dead began when he retrieved the body of a classmate from the water. Over the years, he has dealt with bodies that were bloated, decayed, mutilated, or victims of train accidents. Whenever the deceased were orphaned, it was Vinu who took on the responsibility of their burial. His commitment led him to sell his own land and take on loans to cover cemetery expenses. In return, society labeled him "Shavamvaari" (corpse handler), and he became isolated, even from his family. Yet, when Vinu reflects on his life, he feels a deep sense of peace. He has buried nearly a thousand orphaned bodies, serving as their sole caretaker, always aware that one day he too will return to the earth. Though he continues moving from one rented home to another, Vinu dreams of owning a cemetery to ensure a dignified resting place for the dead
