"lit(var)" is the 39th and final track in the original 'A Shape of Light' album of the universally-acclaimed anime film 'A Silent Voice', directed by Naoko Yamada. The music was composed by Kensuke Ushio. It's the longer variation of a soundtrack with the same basic melody, "lit". This is the easiest "lit" / "lit(var)" piano arrangement I've ever made.
Kensuke Ushio explained that creating the soundtracks for the film required him to dismantle an upright piano and place the recording mics inside, so that the parts and inner-working mechanics of the piano are clearly audible as an integral part of the music. The strings were also dampened such that only lower-frequencies of the piano are audible, in a way, similar to how most of the hearing-impaired perceive sound. This all changed in the final track of the film, "lit(var)", because Shouya is finally able to "hear" the people and the world around him. This lo-fi piano version challenges the idea of having the pianos still dismantled and dampened for the whole song, as if it's heard or played from Shouko's perspective instead. At first, I thought this would be a pretty chill and laid-back version of the regular piano arrangement, but quickly realised that it actually feels really bittersweet yet still fits the film's narrative very well.
