Rare Footage Inside Mao's China | Sino-Soviet Split Meets Cultural Revolution (1972)

In October 1972, as relations between the Soviet Union and the People’s Republic of China continued to deteriorate, ITN took advantage of Mao Zedong’s increasing sympathies for the West, resulting in two weeks of rare, detailed reporting from inside China. Earlier that year, US President Richard Nixon had made a historic visit to the country and, in October, ITN’s Peter Snow gained enough access to analyse multiple facets of life inside the People's Republic, from the military to the media. Changing attitudes to Britain are also shown throughout these reports, all shot on beautiful 70s grade film stock.
