In Italy there’s a saying called i giorni della merla, used to describe the coldest days of the year, usually at the end of January. In this video I explain what it means, where it comes from, and why Italians still talk about it today.
It’s also a great example of why Italy is such a unique country — hot summers with beaches everywhere, and cold winters perfect for skiing, often just a short drive apart.
