Welcome to Kereita Forest!
Located in the Aberdare Range in central Kenya, Kereita Forest is part of the Kikuyu Escarpment Forest, managed by the Kenya Forest Service. It’s just an hour’s drive from Nairobi CBD.
The name Kereita comes from the Kikuyu word Gutukira, meaning “to surpass,” alluding to the forest’s towering landscapes and cultural importance.
This forest is part of Kenya’s highlands, playing a key role in providing water for major rivers like the Tana.
The best time to visit is during sunny weather, and private transport is ideal as the forest is off-road. We went in July, and it was quite cold, so warm clothes, trousers, and comfortable shoes are a must to enjoy the activities.
