Running 10 gauge wire to my running Fish Finder, will it help?

I need to run new wire to my unit in my counsel. I use this unit to tell me the depth as I run down the lake. But at the end of last season it started to cut off and on. So, I'm going to run #10 straight to the unit. This should cut out all of that. I hope!
