👀 - Fun fact about the song as well as the album itself: Pink Floyd’s "Wish You Were Here" actually began as a rebellion — first against their own fame, with plans for an album using household objects like cake mixers, then through Roger Waters’ cynical lyrics skewering the music industry, especially in “Have a Cigar.” The album’s emotional core is the tribute to Syd Barrett, “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” written for the band’s lost genius, who ironically visited the studio unrecognized, unaware he was its subject. The iconic album cover, featuring stuntman Ronnie Rondell set on fire in a business suit, was coated in petrol and lit under the hot sun. His flame-proof wig and protective gear were meticulously erased by hand using photo dyes and bleach, creating an image of surreal calm in the midst of fire. Despite mixed initial reviews, including one from Rolling Stone that called the band passionless, the album is now revered as a masterpiece, selling over 13 million copies and resonating as a haunting meditation on absence, fame and friendship. Finally, David Gilmour had his first marriage after the launch of the album, with an American-born model and artist, Virginia "Ginger" Hasenbein.
