ROUND 1: The 2025 PDGA Amateur Disc Golf World Championships @PDGAmedia
Tuesday, August 19th
Round 1 lulled me into a false sense of security with my forearm.
Round 1 felt almost too good to be true. My forearm held up the entire round with basically no issues — no real pain, no hesitation, full power, just me being able to trust my dominant throw again. After struggling so much in my Sunday practice round, and NOT being able to use my forearm, it was a huge relief. I thought, “maybe the rest day had fixed it, maybe I had actually dodged this bullet.”
That’s why I say I was lulled into a false sense of security. I left Round 1 of Am Worlds thinking my body was ready for the grind of this tournament. But little did I lknow, Round 2 would hit me hard with reality — the pain showed up before I even teed off, just from a couple of warm-up throws…and it was bad! 😖
Disc golf has a way of reminding you not to get too comfortable. One day you’re throwing clean, the next day you’re fighting just to get through a round. But even so, I’m grateful for that first round — and strangely, even for the injury. It’s forcing me to lean on my backhand and finally face the struggles I’ve carried with it since cancer and everything that came along with it (before and after). Painful as it is, I believe this is the opportunity I needed to rebuild something stronger — in my game and in myself.
BREAKDOWN:
◦ Friday (Aug. 15th): 2 practice rounds
◦ Saturday (16th): Mixed Doubles round
◦ Sunday (17th): Practice round - I could hardly throw my forearm (my main/dominant throw). It was painful, and my body wouldn't even let me follow through properly.
◦ Monday (18th): Took the day off to rest and be ready for the tournament.
◦ Tuesday (19th): Felt good - my forearm was back, little to no pain, plenty of power, and I really thought the day off had done the trick.
...turns out I was VERY wrong 😑
Often this game teaches you more through the struggles than the victories. Just gotta keep showing up and finding a way 💪🏻💛
